8 Glaring Signs Of An Unhappy Marriage That's Likely Headed Straight For Divorce

Posted On: January 30, 2024

This article exposes some of the 8 glaring signs of an unhappy marriage.  I particularly love the photo which shows two people at breakfast, both on their phones and ignoring each other.  This alone exposes a window into someone’s relationship when you see a couple having a meal together and they are not even talking to each other or acknowledging the other’s presence.  This even happens at a restaurant.  It is a really sad sign when some couples cannot even have a meal and break bread together and have a conversation, but instead are captivated by their phones.

Relationships take time and effort and that means communication.

Why Marriage Goals Are Key to a Happier, More Productive Relationship

Posted On: March 02, 2021

If you know anything about goal setting then you know it's imperative to think about and set goals to have success in whatever you do.  Whether it's starting a new business, developing your career, or working within a relationship.  Having goals not only structures and gives positive direction, it focuses ones attention on what's important.  Even within a marriage or a significant relationship, it's important to talk, communicate and think about the future as well as goals. People most often make assumptions that things will just work out and take care of themselves...love conquers all.  However, as with anything else, if you are looking for success, setting goals helps guarantee the greater possibility of producing positive results.  Having positive intentions and setting them forth creates a better basis for success.

Choosing to discuss goals with your partner will not only lead to a better understanding for each of you in the relationship, but enlighten you both as to what each of you truly want.  As a result, you will have better communication and a stronger relationship with the possibility of greater long term success.

This is definitely a good read and something I think 90% of couples do not do or think about.

Experts say having goals is a definite must in having a healthy and strong marriage and/or relationship.

The 4 Most Common Reasons for Divorce

Posted On: September 04, 2019

Pursuant to recent research and this article, it appears that there are new reasons why couples are getting divorced.  This recent study showed that 47% of the participants (of approx. 2,400 divorced people surveyed) said that the choice was due to a lack of love or intimacy, either because one or both parties fell out of love.  The second most common reason, (44% of the participants), said that there were communication problems.

It is important to keep honest, open lines of communication.  Be kind to one another and keep things fresh.

5 Issues That Cause Marriage Failure Beyond Cheating

Posted On: October 21, 2024

When wedding bells ring, few couples imagine their union might one day crumble. While infidelity often takes center stage in discussions of divorce, deeper, less visible issues frequently spell doom for marriages. These underlying problems, left unchecked, can erode even the strongest bonds. Here’s a look at five critical issues that lead to marriage failure beyond the specter of cheating.

‘Unchain Your Wife’: The Orthodox Women Shining A Light On ‘Get’ Refusal

Posted On: August 12, 2021

This article highlights an ongoing controversy within the Jewish community, regarding the religious requirements in obtaining a divorce.  In Monsey, a hamlet in upstate New York, which has an established Orthodox Jewish community, there appears to be a large billboard that states in big block letters, “Dovid Wasserman.  Give your wife a get!”  For those unfamiliar, a “get” is a document Orthodox Jewish men give their wives as they complete a divorce.  It in essence seals the divorce according to their religious laws.

However, it is the husband who decides, if and when the divorce is final, and can actually withhold the “get”, thereby preventing his ex-wife from moving on with her life or continuing to be part of the Jewish community.  If a woman does not receive a “get”, she is literally considered a “chained woman” because she remains chained to her former marriage and unable to move forward with her life within the community.  If she chooses to exercise her rights under a legal divorce, it will not be accepted by the religious community, since she did not obtain a “get”.  She in essence would be shunned.

A woman is truly limited on what she can do if a husband absolutely refuses to give a “get” and many times Rabbis of the community are impotent to help.  For the woman in this article and her children, this ordeal has been going on for more than 7 years and their interpretation is that the refusal to “give a get” is equivalent to abuse

This woman’s experience is not unique and in fact, for those in the LGBTQ community, it can be even more devastating.  For an LGBTQ person they may have to make a choice between their life, their children’s lives and being a part of their religious community and their family connections or total abandonment of their life and start a new life elsewhere.

This is a horrifying dilemma for Orthodox Jewish women wishing to divorce; but obviously it’s an issue that cannot be resolved from the outside but rather from within.  For those who cannot wait for resolution or evolution to happen, there are woman and children who are faced with dire choices to make.
