All the Famous People Are Getting Divorced. I Think I Know Why.

While the temperatures have been skyrocketing this summer, this has also been the hottest summer for divorce. 

Many prominent people and top celebrities have announced their Divorce/Separation in the news and social media this summer, including Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, who posted an announcement on Instagram that he and his wife would be divorcing. 

Summer can create an empty nest syndrome, where parents, while their children are at camp or college, realize they have grown apart.  I also found this interesting; paradoxically as many weddings occur in the summer, people attending these weddings sometimes find themselves comparing their own crumbling relationship to new couples while witnessing a beautiful wedding.

Other factors would include the uncertain times and economics that we find ourselves in today.

There’s A Little-Known Nature Trail Just Waiting For New York Explorers

Sometimes we overlook or don’t know absolute gems in our own back yard.  This sounds like an absolutely divine hiking trail that is off the beaten path and would be wonderful for some grounding down time with nature.  If you don’t get to it this Summer, I also think it would be lovely in the Fall.

Unfortunately, many people face the traumatic and life altering event of losing a spouse.  Although this is extremely overwhelming, eventually some decide to find love again.  According to the study mentioned in this article, 61% of men and 19% of women find a new relationship or remarry within 25 months of the loss of their spouse. 

Remarrying later in life can be complicated and has its own financial concerns.  This article shares a check list developed by a senior financial advisor after encountering numerous questions from widowed spouses.  He offers general guidelines and a check list of what a surviving spouse should do in the first 24 months and what items to consider depending upon your age.

More Than Two Dozen States Were Expected To Ban Abortion Post-Roe. Courts Are Keeping It Legal In Several Of Them

As a follow up to my post last month, it has been a year since Roe v Wade was stricken and eliminated the Federal constitutional right to abortion nationwide.  More than a dozen U.S. States have banned or severely restricted access to the procedure.  However, abortion remains legal in 7 states that were expected to ban abortion after Roe was overturned; including Michigan where voters approved a measure to ensure abortion rights in their state constitution.

State court houses seem to have emerged as the battleground for both protecting and restricting access to abortion.  Forty lawsuits challenging abortion bans have been filed in 22 states.  It was believed, prior to the arguments heard on Dobbs v. Jackson, that 26 states were likely or certain to ban abortion.  However, one year later, in 7 of those 26 states, abortion remains legal.

SCOTUS Ruling Stokes Fear, Outrage Among LGBTQ Leaders

The conservative majority ruled 6-3 for the evangelical Christian creator.

It’s not only the LGBTQ community that should be in fear because of this Supreme Court decision. The reality is this decision opens the door to any type of discrimination merely because the vendor providing services does not “believe in” the customer's message and rights.

Abortion Regulations and LGBTQ-Related Legislation Among State Laws That Took Effect On July 1st

It truly is unfortunate that our country is becoming a very dangerous place to live. This article highlights several states that have instituted bans on gender affirming treatments, as well as restrictions and/or total bans on abortion.

Florida is still in the forefront of discriminatory legislation from restricting the use of alternate pronouns in school, as well as a total ban on use of restrooms for transgender individuals in state licensed on owned facilities such as public schools, prisons and state universities.
